Botox: botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin, commonly called Botox, is one of the most frequently used methods for smoothing expression lines. It allows subtle refreshment of facial appearance, softening signs of tiredness and slowing the deepening of wrinkles without changing individual features.

At Slim & Smile Aesthetic Clinic, we aim for a natural result. The purpose is not to immobilise the face completely, but to appropriately reduce selected muscle activity while preserving harmony and natural expression.

Expression lines develop from repeated facial muscle movements when smiling, frowning, squinting or raising the eyebrows.

Precisely administered botulinum toxin temporarily reduces excessive activity in selected muscles. The skin above them gradually smooths, and the face gains a more rested, softer and fresher appearance.

We use botulinum toxin primarily to reduce:

• horizontal forehead lines,
• frown lines between the eyebrows,
• crow’s feet around the eyes,
• lines on the bridge of the nose,
• fine lines around the mouth,
• excessive gum visibility when smiling,
• chin muscle tension,
• wrinkles and muscle bands in the lower face and neck.

An individually planned treatment of several areas, known as “full face Botox”, is also possible. Its aim is harmonious facial refreshment, considering all muscles that affect appearance.

Treatment may be suitable for people who:

• notice early expression lines,
• want to limit deepening of existing wrinkles,
• have pronounced frown lines or horizontal forehead lines,
• want to soften wrinkles around the eyes,
• feel their face looks tired or stern,
• seek subtle rejuvenation without changing facial features.

Botulinum toxin may be used both as corrective treatment and as part of an informed approach to anti-ageing prevention.

Every treatment is preceded by a medical consultation and careful assessment of facial expression. The physician analyses muscle activity, strength, symmetry and relationships. This determines injection sites and the appropriate quantity of preparation.

Botulinum toxin is injected at selected points with a very fine needle. The procedure itself usually takes around a dozen minutes and does not require lengthy recovery.

Minor redness, mild tenderness, swelling or small bruises may occur at injection sites immediately afterwards. These symptoms are usually temporary.

The first changes are usually noticeable after a few days; the final result is most often assessed after around two weeks. The effect lasts for a period depending on factors including individual muscle activity, metabolism, the dose used and treatment regularity.

Results are not permanent. Muscle activity gradually returns. Another treatment may be planned following a physician consultation and reassessment of facial expression.

Appropriate assessment, anatomical knowledge and precise dose selection are essential in treating expression lines. Too little preparation may not produce the desired result, while too much may excessively restrict expression.

That is why Slim & Smile Aesthetic Clinic does not use one protocol for everyone. Each face needs an individual plan considering its proportions, expression and natural characteristics.

Treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infections or inflammation, hypersensitivity to preparation ingredients, and in certain neurological diseases and disorders of neuromuscular transmission, among other contraindications.

During consultation, tell the physician about chronic conditions, medicines, supplements and previous botulinum toxin treatments.
