Lavieen thulium laser for pigmentation and skin quality

Korean technology and the possibilities of combining treatment with Secret RF

Pigmentation, visible pores and fine lines often occur together. Skin may have an uneven tone while gradually losing elasticity. A good treatment plan should therefore consider both its surface and deeper layers. At Slim & Smile Aesthetic Clinic in Gorzów Wielkopolski, we use the Lavieen thulium laser and Secret RF microneedle radiofrequency, two technologies that may be considered separately or as part of an individually planned programme.

Lavieen is a thulium laser from Korean company WONTECH

Lavieen is a fractional thulium laser with a wavelength of 1927 nm, developed by South Korean company WONTECH. Fractional treatment means acting on microscopic areas of skin, with tissue between them that supports healing. Energy at this wavelength is absorbed primarily by water in the tissues. The treatment effect depends on factors including energy, pulse duration and coverage density. [1, 2]

It acts on the epidermis and superficial layers of the dermis. This helps explain the use of Lavieen to address skin tone and early signs of photoageing. The manufacturer also lists visible pores, fine lines and uneven skin texture among its applications. [1]

A device described in scientific studies

Lavieen’s capabilities have been assessed in published clinical studies. In a 2023 study, 27 people completed a series of three treatments and follow-up. Improvements were observed in measures including wrinkles, pore visibility, skin elasticity and the melanin index. [2]

These are specific data concerning this device. However, it was a small study without a control group and with short follow-up. Not all measurements improved significantly, including the assessment of spots using the VISIA system. The results support the laser’s use in improving skin quality, but do not mean that every person will achieve the same effect. [2]

Pigmentation requiring an individual approach

Lavieen is used to reduce selected pigmented lesions. It may also be considered as part of a plan for more challenging pigmentation, including melasma. A study published in 2025 using Lavieen assessed melasma treatment and the addition of topical famotidine; it is not evidence for the effectiveness of every laser-only protocol. [1, 3]

For recurring pigmentation, identifying the type of lesion, appropriate assessment and sun protection are particularly important. Melasma tends to recur, and unsuitable treatments may worsen pigmentation. The aim is gradual improvement in tone and maintenance of results, taking skincare and any dermatological treatment into account. [4]

Three operating modes: from refreshment to more intensive renewal

The Polish distributor describes three operating ranges for Lavieen: non-ablative, subablative and ablative. Selecting among them allows the intensity of treatment to be varied. These are settings of one technology, not three different wavelengths. [5]

Non-ablative mode: Gentler thermal action used in treatments aimed at refreshing the complexion and improving its quality. It does not involve vaporising the epidermal surface. Even a gentle treatment can cause temporary redness.

Subablative mode: An intermediate intensity with limited disruption of the epidermal surface. It is described in the context of pigmentation treatment and skin renewal. It may involve light peeling and a temporary feeling of roughness.

Ablative mode: More intensive action involving microscopic areas of superficial tissue removal. The distributor lists applications including scars and stretch marks. A longer healing period must be taken into account.

Treatment parameters and scope are selected for the skin, area and device documentation. Greater intensity does not automatically mean a better result. [2, 5]

Applications for the face and selected body areas

The possibilities of both technologies extend beyond the face. Lavieen is also described for scars and stretch marks, while Secret RF has tips intended for facial and body treatments. The method is chosen according to the skin concern in a particular area. Each area requires separate assessment and appropriate settings. Findings from facial studies should not automatically be applied to the whole body. [5, 6]

Secret RF supports remodelling in deeper skin layers

Secret RF is a microneedle radiofrequency system. Fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy to a selected depth, producing a controlled thermal effect. This allows treatment to target collagen remodelling and improved skin texture. Applications described by Cutera include fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks and visible pores. [6]

Specific features demonstrate the device’s capabilities: adjustable treatment depth and tips with different numbers of microneedles, selected for the area. Secret RF is not a laser. It uses a different type of energy from Lavieen. [6]

Why consider combining Lavieen and Secret RF

When uneven tone is accompanied by fine lines and reduced elasticity, it is worth assessing the possibility of treating different skin levels. Lavieen acts primarily on the epidermis and superficial dermis, while Secret RF delivers energy to deeper layers through microneedles. The treatment areas partly overlap, but the mechanisms differ. [1, 6]

A potential benefit of this plan is addressing several aspects of appearance at once: a more even tone, less visible fine lines and improved skin texture. The result may be noticeable, but its extent depends on the initial condition, settings and healing process.

The concept of combining microneedle radiofrequency with a 1927 nm thulium laser is supported by publications. A study of 25 people compared the two halves of the face; the combined methods produced greater improvement in selected wrinkle assessments than radiofrequency alone. The study concerned particular devices and a specific protocol. It is not direct evidence for any combination of Lavieen and Secret RF. [7]

Treatment planning and recovery time

Combined procedures may mean successive stages of therapy rather than two treatments during one visit. The sequence, intervals and reasons for combining them should follow the assessment and instructions for both devices. Pain, redness, swelling or peeling may occur after treatment; complications are also possible, including pigmentation changes, infection and scarring. Skincare and sun protection are part of the plan. [2, 6]

At Slim & Smile Aesthetic Clinic, you can discuss pigmentation, visible pores, fine lines and changes in the skin quality of the face and body. A consultation helps establish whether Lavieen, Secret RF or a multi-stage programme is appropriate. The aim is to tailor the approach to your skin and expectations.
